About Duggleby Frost Hollow

Hoar Frost
I'm often asked, especially in the Winter, if our equipment is playing up because the temperature here in Duggleby looks so much lower than surrounding areas.

Our Davis Vantage Pro/2 FARS system is very accurate so the answer is a definitive "no". If the weather station says it's -8C then it probably is; regardless of the surrounding areas.

Take a look at the MesoMap image and corresponding webcam capture below taken on 6th February 2012. An usually cold morning following the only snow this Winter so-far. Duggleby is 7-8C colder than it's closest neighbour stations. The air is completely still and it's very cold ...

The cold air rolls down the surrounding hills and collects in the hollow, in this case in Duggleby, causing very cold conditions. With close to zero windspeed the cold air just lies in the hollow creating a very hard frost.
